What to Expect
the Movement
We’ll begin with a gentle movement practice to connect our minds with our bodies and our breath, cultivating an inward focus and awareness, and opening space for creativity. This practice will be appropriate for all levels; simply come as you are.
the Malas
Then we’ll gather in a cozy circle by the wood-burning fireplace to design and hand-string your own mala. You’ll learn a little about what a mala is and how it can be used. Then you’ll learn step by step how to create your own mala. No experience necessary, just bring a willingness to learn and a little patience. I’ll guide you through the entire process, and you’ll go home at the end of the day with a completed mala that you can wear immediately and put to use in your mindfulness practice. This will take up the majority of the scheduled time, but you’ll be able to take breaks whenever you need. Maybe a walk in the woods is calling to you, or a warm cozy drink by the fire. The goal is to slow down and give yourself the space to create something with intention and love that reflects your rhythm and renewal for the year ahead.
the Meditation
Once your mala is complete, you’ll be guided through a meditation to connect with its energy — anchoring your intentions through visualization, presence, and quiet reflection. No prior meditation experience is required, just an open mind and an open heart.
Nourishment & Comfort
Once the mala-making is underway, enjoy a cozy “girl dinner”– style spread of small plates, snacky bites, and warming flavors provided by Cooper’s Dish, alongside delicious warm drinks from Rhythm Coffee, a pop-up coffee bar from Detroit.
The room will be warm with the glow of the fireplace, soft music, and a circle of floor cushions for your comfort. Slippers are encouraged, cozy layers welcome — this is a day to be completely yourself.
Optional Add-On - The SOAK Experience - Additional $33
Extend your retreat with a sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge nestled in the forest.
You can enjoy this before or after the retreat for deeper rest and restoration.
Shuttle service to and from the SOAK facility, towels, and robes will be provided.
To purchase this optional add-on, please add the item to your cart separately before checkout.
Malas were traditionally used as meditation tools, the beads being passed through the fingers to keep count of each mantra as it was recited. Today, they are still used in this way, but they can also be used to count a certain number of breaths or simply worn as a reminder of your intention to practice mindfulness. Then, layer in the various metaphysical properties and energies each gemstone adds to your mala, and the intention woven into each knot you tie, and it becomes a very powerful sacred tool.
